Yellowknife

Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories and located on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, approximately 400km south of the Arctic Circle. With a population of 18,700, Yellowknife is an ethnically diverse city with five major languages in use. Once the economic centre of the gold rush in the 1930s, Yellowknife became an important government services centre in the 80s. However, it is now returning to its mining activities with the recent discovery of diamonds and is now the "Diamond Capital of North America".
