Have you ever done a Google search and gotten over a million search results back? Have you ever tried to remember where you filed that great plan that a colleague sent you several months ago? Finding what you are looking for is often difficult and the whole world starts looking like an overcrowded bulletin board.

Share the Wheel is a wiki web site dedicated to putting sustainability plans at your finger tips. Organized by municipality, you will be able to review documents and tools from across Canada and eventually from every corner of the world. Inspired by the age old expression “why reinvent the wheel”, Share the Wheel is dedicated to sharing information amongst the people who can use it the most.

A profile is created for each municipality that has a sustainability plan, and the municipality is invited to participate in writing the profile and keeping it up to date. In fact if you have a plan and you want to post it to Share the Wheel you can click on Submit Your Plan and you can contact the editor who will review your material and publish it.

Building Community Amongst Communities

Innovative thinking and great ideas can happen anywhere. Often one great idea is replicated over and over, and in each case that idea saves energy or water, or makes community more sustainable. The key is to share success stories and lessons learned. That is the other key component of Share the Wheel.

We are encouraging people to share their stories and in particular to share their experiences. We are trying to build community amongst communities because if we all contribute, if we all share the wheel, we can make better decisions now and in the future.
